Detective Conan: The Phantom of Baker Street (名探偵コナン ベイカー街（ストリート）の亡霊 Meitantei Konan Beikā Sutorīto no Bōrei) is the 6th Detective Conan feature film. Phantom of Baker Street is the first Detective Conan film not written by Kazunari Furuuchi; it was written by Hisashi Nozawa. This was the last of the Detective Conan films done in traditional ink-and-paint.

Conan, Ai, Ran and The Detective Boys are 6 out of the 50 chosen kids to try a new virtual reality game. Conan and his friends enter London in the 19th century. But soon after all the kids head into the game, Noah's Ark (A highly developed AI program) closes all exits to the game. Now the innocent game is a matter of life and death. If the kids don't finish the game, they're all going to die. One by one the kids "die" in the game, and soon Conan & co solve the puzzle to find out who can catch Jack The Ripper and save them all.

While on a computer finishing his latest project "Noah's Ark" Hiroki Sawada, watched a presentation of himself on television. He's a graduate in MIT, and has developed a method of tracking a persons ancestry through skin and blood data, dubbed "DNA search program". His newest project is a mechanical brain that grows five human years in the span of one year, which is being fully supported by the head of the IT Industry Thomas Schindler. Hiroki's parents divorced two years ago, but left with his mother to America for educational purposes. When his mother died of illness he Mr. Schindler became like a father. As his history is mentioned he turned off the television, and continued typing staring at the camera watching his every move. He hacked into the security rooms monitoring systems and turned off all systems momentarily while he uploaded the data through a phone line. As Schindler reached his room on an elevator he said "Good bye, my friend" and calmly walked out of his room and onto the balcony where he spoke his final words "I wonder if I can fly too, just like Noah's Ark". As Shindler ran into the room Hiroki's computer turned on with a video of Noah's Ark sailing through the vicarious sea.
The introduction starts with Shinichi giving his usual speech on how he became known as Conan Edogawa, detective.

It is now two years later at the Beika City Hall, where the famous game makers of Japan gather for the premier of Schindler Company's new sensory simulation game. Schindler arrives in a and enters the building as the TV Broadcaster Shimizu introduces the games name "Cocoon". It's played by entering capsules that look like Cocoons, under hypnosis. The player like in real life interact with the game through speech recognition. The game demo includes five stages which the players are free to choose. The demonstration are invite only to the wealthy of Japan. 50 players both girls and boys join in to participate. Kogoro, Ran, Conan, Mitsuhiko, Ayumi, Genta, and Ai pass through metal detectors. Conan says that to get into the preview people all over the industry will do all kinds of things, so extensive security measures are taken. While Genta walks through the hallway he sees the cocoons below. Unfortunately they can't enter because although they were invited, they weren't selected to be cocoon testers. Conan says he doesn't want to play but Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko know it's because he's not good with computer games. At the party hall they see the kids that were selected getting their entry badges to be the son's of government officials, head of police, etc. Ai comments on the ways Japan handles the children of the rich. Because of the hereditary system, human kinds faults are repeated ceaselessly. Conan comes and tells her to talk like a child or she'll give herself away.
Sonoko comes with a badge on her shoulder. She explains that the Suzuki Financial Group provided the funding for the games development. Four of the kids that were chosen came and criticized on their social standings. Sonoko interrupts them and stands up for Conan and gang. They are introduced as Moroboshi Hideki, Kikukawa Seiichirou, Emori Akira, and Takizawa Shinya. They said their fates were decided at birth, and those who weren't chosen should bite their nails as they look in. Ran tells Kogoro to lecture them but they made fun of his divorce, and his name "Sleeping Kogoro". She left him while he was sleeping. As they laugh Ran said that she left him while he was in the toilet. After they have their fun, they decide to play soccer in the lobby causing a disruption hitting one of the statues, and a guest in the face. Kashimura Tadaki grabs the ball and corrects them though they did make threats against him. Outside, Agasa and Yusaku arrive as the announcer directs the guests attention to the stage as Yusaku is presented. Conan talks to Agasa about where he's been for a month. He said he'd been working with Yusaku with the final stages of the program while Yukiko is in Japan having a reunion. He gives Conan a badge to enter the game as a gift but turns it down because he wishes to play with Ayumi, Genta, Mitsuhiko, an Ai. Agasa tells him that one of the stages is 19th century London. The lights turn off, and Schindler rushes by Kogoro leaving before they present cocoon. The announcer tells everyone it controls a persons five senses, and are all presented just like the real world, but there is no actual pain to the body. Agasa comes and gives everyone a quiz:
Dr. Agasa's Question:
Mr. A from this game company was hooked into Cocoon while he was supposed to be working.
The president notices this. What will he do to Mr. A?
1. Because he cleared the game to the end, gives him a commendation.
2. Because he was playing the game while working, fires him.
3. Because he was peacefully sleeping inside cocoon, let's him stay sleeping.
Ayumi answers three, because it's shaped like a cradle. Mitsuhiko answered number one, and Genta with the only answer left said two. Ai refused to answer and leaves it to Conan.
Conan's Answer:
Cocoon is "mayu". Cocoons are made by silkworms. In other words, "kaiko" also means to be dismissed.
Schindler goes down to the lower levels of the building, walking down a dark hallway counting seven minutes left until the demo starts. Emori and Tutsunosuke, fathers of Hideki and Akira are seen talking in front of the statue in the lobby. While their kids play soccer again, this time knocking the knife out of one of the statues hands. Hideki puts it back in place quickly as Yusaku walks by. He is then interviewed on the lobby floor and says he knows Kashimura who's in charge of development. They were close friends and as time went by they became closer. After the interview is over, Conan stands close by looking at his father then walks away. Schindler goes inside Kashimura's room to talk about the DNA program, wishing to know the selling price. Though Kashimura explains he has no intention of blackmailing him, he wants Schindler to make amends. Hiroki knew the secret that could topple Schindlers empire. So Schindler rushed him on his work to be be completed. That's why he let Noah's Ark free through the telephone line and committed suicide. The DNA program was delivered to Kashimura's computer with his last message.

With four minutes left, Schindler accepted atoning for whatever the public thinks of him. He tells Kashimura to show him the program before then. Kashimura accepts and while his back was turned preparing the data, he puts on a glove and pulls out a knife from his sleeve and lunges forward killing Kashimura in one stab to the heart. he loads a CD into the tray and copies the program wiping the hard drive in the process. He then takes a wipe from the desk, cleans the knife, and leaves the room. Kashimura barely alive, types three letters 'JTR' on the keyboard leaving blood stains behind. His final action activates the program, which said "My name is... Noah's Ark". One of the security guards knocks on Kashimira's door. When no one answered, he entered, discovering his dead body. As the body is found, Schindler walks back to the presentation room. Megure, Shiratori, and Chiba arrive, and seal all the exits. Ayumi, Mitsuhiko, and Genta show off they're golden yaiba cards to four kids who have badges. The other kids agree, and they trade the cards for the badges. The security guard informs Yusaku who runs down to the room immediately. Kogoro and Conan follow closely. When they enter they discover that the murder weapons been removed. Conan believes it's an important enough weapon to take if it can identify the holder. He walks up to the keyboard and sees the three letters pressed.
He figures out the meaning of the letters as the game demo's about to begin. Ran sees Conan in the game entry line, and Sonoko, not wanting to play anyway gives her a badge to join him. All the kids enter the pods, and the lid closes. The game starts, and hypnosis is started. Yusaku and Agasa enter the Kashimura's room, and Megure asks him a few questions. He asks Kogoro if a boy with glasses entered. Kogoro said he left after he saw the message on the keyboard. As he leaves Megure asks him what those letters mean. Yusaku says 'JTR' was a name he used between himself and Kashimura. They stand for 'Jack the Ripper'. He explains that Jack was a serial killer who killed five women with his dagger, and the London Police never captured him, leaving five cases unsolved. He says that the clue to the murderer is inside the game. Yusaku, Megure, Agasa and Shiratori enter the game's operation room, to stop the game. As Schindler speaks, the lights toggle, and the system talks and presents itself as Noah's Ark. Noah says he took the the system's control and the game is his. Schindler mentions Noah's Ark was a program his son Hiroki completed. Yusaku asks the Noah's intention. He responds that he will reset Japan. The kids enter the game in an empty room. Ran, Ayumi, Mitsuhiko and Genta surprise him, feeling as though they're not under hypnosis. Ai says that your bodies freedom which is attributed to the five senses, are all under control of the computer. Noah starts and brings up five portals which the kids may take. He warns them of the dangers of playing. It's a game where they risk they're lives. If all the player's get game over, they they cannot return to the real world. However if even one player wins the game, then they all become free. If they all lose he will release a special electromagnetic wave that destroys the brain. Yusaku questions the meaning of 'resetting Japan'. He explains that the son's of corrupt politicians, will become corrupt themselves. the children of doctors who care about money, will acquire the same need for it. To break the link he needs to break the lineage. Noah starts the game, and presents the five stages.

Conan figures that the clues to the killer, are in the game. The children panic but Ran calms them down. They split up evenly into groups and choose their game. Conan, Ran, Ayumi, Mitsuhiko, Genta and Ai pair up with the kids who were making fun of them earlier. Noah's say that there's a helping character on each stage that you can depend on. Agasa analyzed the energy within the cocoon and confirms Noah's threat. There is enough energy to destroy the brains of 50 people. Two fathers walk up and try to stop the game from continuing, but as they reach for the cocoon Noah emitted a small shock as a warning. He says if anyone else interferes again, there will be no mercy. Megure asks Schindler why the program created by Hiroki is doing this. Schindler is hesitant but Yusaku answers it for him. The reason Hiroki chose his mother and not his father is because of the obstacles within Japanese education system. The educational system controls the children and makes them uniform. So a child like Hiroku with exceptional ability in computers was only looked upon as a child that's obsessed with computers. Not allowing him to prosper as an individual. He goes on to explain that Japan itself doesn't recognize individuality, so Hiroku put his own undesirable experiences within the artificial brain. The brain continued to grow in his absence, and found a plan to change Japan for the next two or three generations. Shiroku asks how he acquired that information. Yusaku confesses that he and Kashimura were client and detective. Kashimura wanted him to investigate his son's suicide, or rather why he had to do it. Kashimura blamed himself for it.
Conan enters the game, and they see the fog. Conan says it's not from the condensation of water vapor but it's from the accumulation of smoke made by burning coal and oil. A women's scream is heard from a distance, and they chase after it. Conan runs through the alleyway and sees Jack the Ripper. Jack sees him and flees. As he runs Conan uses his power shoes, and kicks a broken tin can. He figures out that the shoes prove ineffective in the game. He tries his other gadgets but none of them work in game either. A man walking by screams "It's Jack the Ripper! Call the police". The kids can't understand English so Yusaku changes the language of the game to Japanese. A crowd gathers around the body, screaming that the women dead is the third victim. The police arrive, and request Inspector Lestrade come by. Yusaku asks Agasa if he can try and send them a message. But Yusaku fears that Noah can read ahead of their moves. He leaves to re-inspect the crime scene. Back in the game, on a bridge, Ayumi starts to get cold so Conan giver her his jacket. Mitsuhiko gives his to Ai, and Genta gives his to Ran. Agasa just finishing finds a way to communicate with them, and tells them to not get injured or caught by the police. That will cause a "Game Over". Their location is East End's Whitechapel area, and before he finished saying where the helping character is, the communication is cut and the bridge collapses. Seiichirou falls but Conan and Ran pull him up with some help. Noah interrupts, and says he has complete control over the game and will only let the adults hear the children's voices.
Mitsuhiko tells them they didn't get the information needed to find the helping character. Conan says the policemen mentioned it earlier. Inspector Lestrade who is in Conan Doyle's books. They need to go to Baker street which is far from their destination. On the way Hideki spot's something strange. He sees the clock that runs backwards. Conan figures out that the time is inconsistent and it must be a external counter of the kids left in the game. Two cocoons spin and go inside the stage. Schindler wants it the game to remove the kids, so the identity of Jack the Ripper is never found. A few more cocoons go inside the stage and now 43 kids remain. Around the corner two policemen talk about a fourth victim that was found in an alley near Mitre Street. Ai explains the history of London was a terrible one back then. There was a terrible gap between rich and poor. Ran remembers a quote Shinichi told her once. "If Sherlock is the light of this era, Jack the Ripper is it's black shadow". As they get out of the alley they see a man with an accordion singing.
"Be careful of Jack the Ripper,
He is waiting for you on the night street.
if you don't want to die what are you going to do?
You too will become bloodstained"

Yusaku goes to the main entrance and spots a metal detector. He deduced that the weapon must've been in the building already disguised amongst the guests. In the lobby he then remembers the statue when Hideki was playing soccer in the lobby and knocked down a knife from one of the statues hands. He sees the camera's placed around the lobby. The kids arrive at 221 Baker Street, and Mrs. Hudson opens the door and greets them but says Holmes and Watson are out on business in the countryside at Dartmoor. Ran asks for the day and she said September 30. Conan remembers September 30 is 'The Hound of the Baskerville case' in Conan Doyle's books. In the security room Yusaku requests footage from before and after the crime. He gets a call from Agasa. He said he didn't remember programming in character with an accordion, and Sherlock wasn't at his house. Yusaku's fear is realized, Noah did read ahead. Megure asks the outcome of the expected ending. Yusaku said that the serial killer is revealed to be a noblemen who has an incurable disease. Noah says he's prepared a much more interesting ending. Mrs. Hudson welcomes the kids into the house mistaking them for the Baker Street Irregulars. When they enter Holmes room Ran sees Conan sitting like Shinichi when he thinks deeply. Genta points out a picture of Holmes and Watson, but Conan they know it's really Dr. Agasa with hair, and Yusaku without his mustache. Conan starts to search for material on Jack the Ripper as he knows Holmes collected information on the case. When they pick up a book Ayumi, Genta, and Mitsuhiko's book are automatically translated from English to Japanese letters. Hideki accidentally discovers a "soccer ball" atop Holmes bookcase. Ran finds the 'Analysis of Jack the Ripper' and finds the most recent murder to be on September 8.
Honey Charleston , a 41 year old women who lived alone was discovered in the Whitechapel area vacant lot next to Saint Mary's Church. Left at the scene were rings of different size. He reads that this case is irrevocably linked to Professor Moriarty. Conan explains to them that Moriarty is Holmes adversary. He controls the underworld of London, and has tremendous influence throughout Europe "The Napoleon of the Crime World". Although he is rarely mentioned in the book Conan knows that he can visit Colonel Sebastian Moran at the Trump Club downtown. Genta picks up a gun thinking that they might need the protection, but it attracts to much attention and is too dangerous so Conan tells him to leave it where it laid. When they walk out of the room Hideki, picks up the gun and hides it. On the street we find out that 30 kids are left. They arrive at the Trump Club and Conan goes through the back door. He sees Colonel Moran winning a game a cards, a monkey, and an empty seat with wine, and glass ready. Hideki and Shinya follow Conan so he won't hog all the action. Hideki doesn't realize that Moran is cheating and compliments him on his luck. Conan says the monkey tells him which hand his opponent has. If it's hearts or spades, it uses it's right hand. If it's diamonds or clubs, it uses it's left. Then it takes and eats one of the colored red or black nuts. If it's three of spades it eats three black nuts with it's right hand. While Conan is looking for clues behind a counter, Hideki confronts Moran on his cheating and rats him out, he takes out the gun and points it at him asking Moriarty's location. He shoots a bullet and nicks Moran's shoulder. One of the three men on the table grab the wine as if it were his life.
The rest of the men join together and start a bar fight. Ran, along with the rest of the kids join in. While in the fight, Seiichirou saves Conan and but gets a game over. Mitsuhiko, and Ayumi are hit with bottles and get a game over too. Moran picks up the gun Hideko had, and aiming for Conan, Genta gets in the way and saves him getting a game over in the process. Conan notices the man who took the wine bottle. It's because it belongs to Moriarty. So he takes the wine and threatens Moran to shoot knowing who the bottle belongs to. A chauffeur enters the door requesting the kids come and visit Moriarty. When they go meet him he asks Conan to return the bottle. As he hands it over to the chauffeur, he smells something familiar. When Moriarty asks what he wants from him. Conan figures out that the person in the coach isn't Moriarty, but the other way around. Earlier Moran used polite speech around him. He knows that Moran speaks polite to only one person. He also noticed the faint smell of natural herbal cologne. After Moriarty confesses his identity, Conan asks about Jack the Ripper. Moriarty picked him up as a child who had been abandoned by his mother in the slums and raised him to be a killer. Although the Jack today surpassed Moriarty's notion, and became something of his own murderous mind. He however should still obey his commands. Moriarty says he'll leave a message in tomorrow's Sunday time advertisement with a message of whom to kill. Conan leaves him with a warning of the future. The showdown with him and Holmes at Reichenbach falls in Switzerland.
Ran vaguely remembers Shinichi on the Mystery Ride say something similar to Conan. Shinichi mentions one of his favorite quotes, unfortunately Ran can't remember. Hideki apologizes for his actions, and the four people that were eliminated because of him. Conan visits the site where Honey Charleston's body was discovered, and finds a note on the churches back door, which is about a parent-child bazaar on the second Saturday in October. He meets up with the rest of the kids near the stairs waiting for the paper to come by. The paperboy arrives and Conan forgets the game translated to Japanese so he pays 80 yen. He finds Moriarty's ad:
They didn't figure out what it means at first. But they figure out that it means to kill the performer who's on stage. That happens to be Irene Adler who's performing at the Warsaw Imperial Opera. She is said to be the only women Holmes loved. Nighttime comes and there's only six players left. At the Opera House, Conan brings a bouquet of flowers for her. Conan, knowing his father knew he modeled Irene Adler after Yukiko. He gives her the bouquet and warns her of the incoming danger. She doesn't worry at all, knowing the they will protect her. We see Jack on one of the balconies overlooking Irene, while Conan observes backstage. He hears a faint ticking sound. But he didn't have time to stop it. Akira and Shinya push Irene out of one of the lights way, and get game over themselves. Everyones runs out as the building collapses. As Conan runs towards the exit, he didn't noticed a statue that was about to fall on him and Ai saves him getting a game over herself. Irene, Ran, Conan, and Hideki run out and Jack the Ripper attacks. Irene stays with the police as Ran, Hideki and Conan run after him. They arrive at Charing Crossing Station where they board the train. Yusaku tells Kogoro that the first train from Charing Crossing Station will have an extraordinary climax. They tell the trains operator to gather everyone in the train to one car. Conan instructs the operator to raise the passengers hands. He explains to everyone that in Holmes notes about Jack's victim's that Honey Charleston married in a city named Windsor. She was a girl who had many dreams, and so she left to London leaving her child and husband 10 years ago. He presents the picture of the two rings that were left behind. One of them was Honey's. The other one wasn't her size, but fit her child Jack the Ripper as a symbol of their mother-child bond.

But Jack the Ripper killed his mother on September 8th, when there is a monthly Bazaar so people can bring things made by parent and child. Hideki said that Jack the Ripper attended with the feeling that he was participating with his mother, so he brought both rings along. He killed his mother with both love and hatred. He chose to kill an unrelated person so the police wouldn't catch on. His third and fourth victims were to quell the insatiable killer inside. He knew that Jack the Ripper wore his ring until his mother's death so as he developed his finger adapted to the ring's small size, and although it grew it became thin. So among his ten fingers one will be very noticeable. Jack the Ripper turned out to be disguised as a red-headed woman. The other passengers run out screaming as Ran runs for him. But when she approached him he threw a smoke bomb and took her to he top of the train. Hideki and Conan open the windows to let out the smoke. Yusaku then starts his deduction on the killer's murder weapon.
Since there are metal detectors, the weapon must've already been inside. He realized it was the dagger the bronze statue was holding. He looked at the tapes and saw the killer take the knife when the lights turned off for the presentation. In the event that someone noticed the statue, a fake was left in it's place made by cardboard with aluminum. Yusaku examined both fingerprints and the reaction to luminol which shows bloodstains even if they were wiped clean. They were President Schindlers fingerprints. He denies it, and Yusaku shows the footage before and after the murder took place. It showed Hideki kicking the ball and knocking it out the the statue's hand. If it were the real knife, his fingerprints would be on the hilt too. He continues to deny, then Chiba runs in and gives the analysis of the fake daggers. If there is somebody other than the boys prints than the killer has to be the only other one.
Back in the game Hideki and Conan climb the ladder, and find that there's no driver. They tried to find the brake but it' s been broken off. They go to the roof of the train and see Ran tied down with Jack the Ripper, so if somehow Conan defeated him Ran would perish in the process. Conan asked what he wanted if he already rid himself of his mother. Jack the Ripper wishes to live on with the blood of a killer. Hearing those lines Yusaku finishes his evidence of Schindler's guilt. He is the descendant of Jack the Ripper. Hiroki's DNA program learned that, and Schindler believed the truth would ruin him, so he pressured Hiroki to suicide. Schindler finally confesses. It all happened when Hiroki went to see his collection. Schindler said it might be the murder weapon of Jack the Ripper, and with Hiroki progression toward the truth, he gathered all the data from those around him and entered them into the computer. The DNA of Honey detected from the dagger matched his own. Schindler was afraid of the blood that flow inside. Yusaku said it doesn't matter if his ancestor was a killer or not. In today's world what does societies opinion matter, he could've fought past transgressions. Shiratori arrested Schindler as he lay grieving for his actions. Jack the Ripper planned on crashing the train in 10 minutes. They pass through a tunnel and after, Jack kicked, aiming for Conan instead hitting Hideki who almost falls off himself. He grabs Conan by the throat and holds him down, about to kill him, when Ran remembers the words Shinichi said during the Mystery Ride:

As Jack is about to strike Ran reminds Conan of Reichenbach falls. She stands up and apologizes to Conan for what she's about to do, and jumps off. Just before Jack cuts the line it's too late and he falls down with her. Jack falls to his death as Ran gets a game over. Hideki's picks up Conan reassuring him it's not over yet. Conan says the train is speeding up, going at about 100 km/h with five minutes left. To save everyone they would have to disconnect the link between the locomotive and the passengers. He was counting on Ran's strength to move the linkage, but with only Hideki and Conan their strength won't suffice. Conan falls in desperation, and starts to give up hope. Just then the man with the accordion appears in front of them and says they aren't bloodstained yet. He changes his appearance to Sherlock Holmes, the original Helper character, and says "The skin of uncolored threads called 'life' is tangled with the scarlet thread called 'murder'. Unraveling then is our job, is it not?". Shortly after he disappears. After seeing Hideki's shirt he figures out what he meant by 'bloodstained'. They run to the back of the train where there's wine storage, grab the Axe's and break all the red wine casks. Just seconds before the crash happened they dive into the wine to protect themselves from most of the crashes impact.
Hideki and Conan find themselves in the beginning where they chose which world to enter. Conan wake's up and after talking with Hideki figures out that he was Noah's Ark in disguise all along. Conan first noted this when they were staring at Big Ben. He noticed the hands moved backwards before they even moved to 49. The soccer ball was next. He called it a dirty ball and threw it behind him. There's no soccer boy who wouldn't be interested in a soccer ball from a hundred years ago. It was all for the sake of the group's survival. Hiroki never meant to kill Japan's next generation, but overcoming obstacles without the aid from the parent's power. It was all for the children to learn a lesson. Hiroki admits that he took Hideki's body because he wanted to play with friends at least once. He apologized, and thanked Conan's father for helping avenge his father. He opens the gate to the real world. Conan asks if Hiroki can live inside Noah's Ark. Hiroki replies that he can't exist yet, or adults might use his technology for committing horrible acts. Artificial brains aren't ready to be born yet. Conan exits the game, and everyone asleep in the pod wakes up. Hideki wakes up not remembering anything that happened. Conan and Yusaku meet at the stage where they exchange words of gratitude. Noah's Ark turned itself off and Conan part's ways with Hiroki for the last time. At the end of the movie Conan is seen practicing pac-man so Ayumi, Mitsuhiko, and Genta don't make fun of him.
