[edit] Summary
The Mouri family have a dinner planned. Kogoro, Ran, and Conan have to go pick up Eri from her appointment at the beauty salon. While she is there, a famous fighter is murdered. Suspicion falls on the beautician but Eri gives her a rock solid alibi. Is she the culprit? If so, why is Eri lying about it, or is she?
[edit] Prologue
The episode starts off at the Mouri Detective Agency. Kogoro is reading the paper with the TV on. It talks about the fighter Shirou Nagasaku preparing for his championship fight coming next month and his approaching wedding. Kogoro makes a snide remark about young people marrying.
Ran enters and tells Kogoro that he should stop being such a grouch and that he needs to get ready for their dinner with Eri. Kogoro looks at his watch noting that it is only 6:30pm and that the dinner is set for 10:00pm. Ran says that they need to leave early to pick Eri up from the beauty salon. Conan gets home from playing soccer and Ran mentions that he should get washed up too.

[edit] Eri's Appointment
In the bathroom of the Hasaka Hair Salon, Minayo Hasaka, owner, is giving her old boyfriend a haircut. Shirou Nagasaku is now a famous fighter engaged to another woman. Minayo jokes that if his fiance found out about these visits, she would be very angry with him. Though that is the reason the haircut is taking place in the bathroom and not in the main salon room that is visible from outside. According to Shirou's watch, it is nearing 8:00pm so there shouldn't be anymore customers for the evening. Just then a voice is heard. Minayo goes to see that it is Eri Kisaki and she is here for her last minute appoitment.
Eri apologizes for having to come so late and inquires if Minayo is here alone. She answers yes and that the rest of the staff had things to do. She offers to raise the volume of the music so that Eri doesn't feel lonely to which Eri politely declines saying that she doesn't need to go through the trouble just for her. Minayo starts on her to shampoo her hair.
Kogoro is driving towards Eri wondering why he, a renowned detective, is forced to go pick Eri up so late just because she is getting her hair cut. Ran says that is isn't a problem because they had the spare time anyways. Ran is excited for the late night visit because she might get to see her mom's long hair down for the first time in awhile. Kogoro scoffs and mutters that he was tired of seeing that when he and Eri were young. Conan sarcastically mentions that even so, Kogoro agreed very quickly to go and pick her up making Korogo blush.
After Minayo has finished the coloring of Eri's hair. She leaves for 10 minutes so that the color can set. Minayo tells Eri that she is going to go take out the garbage. Eri is a bit disappointed and wanted to exchange gossip like that usually do. To which Minayo says that she is a bit disappointed not to hear more stories of her famous husband.
[edit] The Strange Sounds
Kogoro is driving along when Ran tells her that they are nearing the beauty salon. She also reminds him to be nice to Eri since they haven't seen each other in awhile. Suddenly, a strange sound is heard followed by another. They stop the car to figure out what the sound was and where it came from. Conan heads towards the railing since they believe they heard the sound of something being hit and possibly falling. Conan turns on his watch light and beyond the rail, on the ground, is a garbage bin. Inside, they see the body of Shirou Nagasaku with his neck sliced open. Kogoro calls the ambulance and police. Conan then hears another sound that he can't identify.
Minayo is back with Eri as she holds up a mirror so Eri can see how her hair looks. As Eri comments that it's perfect, she notices people scrambling in the streets and at how noisy it all is. Minayo notes that she heard the sound of a patrol car and that her and Eri should go take a look. Eri mentions that if it is a case, that it's more Kogoro's department than hers to which we see Minayo think that Eri's testimony is what is really most important to her.
Police officers have set up a blockade to prevent citizens from crossing while Inspector Megure investigates. Takagi reads off the details of the victim's death. Megure recounts Kogoro's tale of finding the body and speculates that after someone sliced open Shirou's neck, they tossed him over the guardrail of the road above and into the garbage bin.
Ran mentions that when they heard the sounds, they didn't see anyone else around. Kogoro thinks that they should consider that the culprit could have carried the body on a tall vehicle, like a truck, and threw the body off while it was driving past the garbage bin. However, Ran states that they didn't hear any kind of truck either to which Kogoro agrees. Conan says that what they heard was a whack from something being hit and a thud from something falling. There was also a klink sound like something was rolling. Those 3 sounds are the key clues to this case. Because the body was thrown, Megure assumes the culprit is most likely a man. Takagi adds that the killer is probably also a skilled hand-to-hand fighter since the victim was very skilled in fighting.
[edit] A Lawyer's Testimony
Eri appears on the scene. She adds if it was only slicing the victims neck, a woman could have easily accomplished the task as well. It just depends on the situation of the murder. Kogoro is surprised to see her and wants to know why she's here. Eri has the same question for Kogoro. He mentions that it's just a coincidence.
Megure orders a search of Shirou's colleagues to find a suspect. We see Minayo thinking that they can try as hard as they like, they will never suspect an ordinary woman like her. She is snapped out of thought as Conan grabs her hands. He says that she is from this neighborhood and asks her if there is a barber shop or beauty salon nearby because around the victim's neck is a lot of small pieces of hair mixed with the blood. The blood is also broken in pieces as if the victim was wearing a cape or towel as if he was getting his hair cut. Minayo looks on with a look of horror on her face as they seem to be unraveling her brilliant murder before her eyes. Megure, Kogoro, and Takagi concur with Conan and now plan to seek out any barber's or beauticians in the area. Conan coyly looks at Minayo and says that they should ask her because he is certain she is a beautician. Minayo is shocked at this kid and wondering just who the hell he is.
Eri admits that Minayo is indeed a beautician and that she was cutting her hair until just moments ago. Conan mentions that a callus on her hand on the ring finger was what gave her away. It's known as a scissors callus and happens from always placing your finger through the loop of scissors. Also, her nails are turning brown from all the dye and shampoos she uses with her customers. Kogoro is suspicious of Conan's knowledge to which Conan hurriedly mentions that he saw it on a tv show. Kogoro smirks and says that conan watches way to much tv. Ran mentions that at least it's better than Kogoro and his horse racing.
Megure asks Minayo if she knows how many other beauty shops or salons are in the area. Since Shirou was a fighter, Megure still believes it was a man who killed him and dumped the body. Minayo tells him that there are at least 2 or 3 other shops but that she isn't sure that there are any employees at those who have that kind of strength. Conan questions her as to why she didn't answer him earlier about owning her own salon. However, Kogoro grabs him and escorts him away and gives him to Ran. Minayo says that she was agitated because she recognized the victim. She explains that in high school, they were classmates and dated for awhile. Shirou use to come to her salon often before getting engaged to get his hair cut.
Kogoro comes up and suspects that Minayo is the culprit and that she had a motive to kill Shirou. Everyone is surprised at his suspicions except for Conan. Eri interrupts him and wonders how he came to that conclusion. Kogoro explains that she lived near the area where the body was discovered and that it's obvious she's a suspect. Eri asks Takagi for the time of death, ~8:10pm. Eri states that it would be impossible for Minayo to be the culprit as she was with her when she was getting her hair cared for until 9:00pm. Conan gets a surprised look on his face as now the facts aren't so certain and Eri's testimony gives Minayo a perfect alibi. Eri and Kogoro exchange glares over the differing opinion as he still believes Minayo is the killer.
[edit] Salon Sleuthing
Minayo suggests they check their shop. They ride in Kogoro's car and Conan has to sit on Ran's lap. He laments that it's ok once in awhile as he blushes. Kogoro speeds around a corner and Eri scolds him and tells him that he needed to signal and look both ways. Kogoro bites his tongue and doesn't say anything out loud. Minayo tells them they are at the shop. Kogoro, not paying attention, slams on the brakes. This causes Conan to fly forward and bang his head on the dash. Eri comments again on his reckless driving and that she should have just walked. Ran worries if Conan is ok and he responds weakly that he is.
Inside, Megure goes over Eri's alibi. Eri always has Minayo cut her hair after work. She had made the appointment as usual and arrived at 8:00pm. Eri then lists her experience totaling an hour and a half. Megure asks when Minayo left and Eri explains that she had left while the coloring had set between 8:20pm to 8:30pm. Kogoro still believes she had plenty of time as it is only 3 minutes from the crime scene by car. However, Minayo doesn't have a driver's license and uses a scooter instead. Minayo takes them to the garbage pickup area she went to through a back road behind the salon. Conan asks about the way opposite there as it may lead to above where the body was found. Conan gets on the railing and it is just as he thought. The area is 2 levels directly above the crime scene. Conan runs through the evidence to figure out how the crime was committed.
